Designed with nature in mind, the Achair is produced from fast grown UK ash sustainably sourced in the UK. Ash is known to be one of the strongest timbers, and the best material is found in smaller trees making it a great use of forest thinnings.
Steam bending is a fast and rewarding process which forms and seasons the timber at the same time. The combination of local ash and steam bending has an exceptionally short supply chain. The tubular rivets you see are more than a pretty detail, and are in fact many times stronger than conventional timber jointing; they are also particularly well suited to steam bending and the flexible structures that make this design so strong and enduringly comfortable.
Making a chair comfortable is central to all of David's designs. When sat on, this chair not only flexes to accommodate uneven floors, but yields to your body. The subtle flexibility of the structure encouraging your slight movement, which in turn reduces pressure points and leads to greater comfort. Generous lumbar supports avoid contact with the spine, but instead meets the muscles either side of it.
The Achair offers an unrivaled combination of benefits:
Light weight (Less than 5 KG).
High strength through unique jointing and structural geometry.
Will even accommodate uneven floors.
Scandinavian style natural soap finish as standard.
