Andrew Cheetham is an artist based in Scarborough, North Yorkshire. Enthused by the grandeur and dramatic beauty found in the remains of our industrial heritage he has produced work inspired by everything from derelict warehouses, to burned out churches and disused railways.
In 2009 Andrew became Artist in Residence at Rosedale Abbey on the North York Moors. During this time he produced a selection of stunning art pieces inspired by the natural beauty of North Yorkshire. “My Artwork could be described as documentary in that I prefer to work from life. My early subject matter included bygone places of industry and commerce with the aim to portray the majesty of decay."
In September 2000 he began documenting Scarborough’s Fishing Industry. Witnessing firsthand the drastic decline of Scarborough’s fishing fleet, the distress of fishermen having to sell their boats and belongings. Stating that “throughout this time the sea has been a constant in my work, constantly changing, constantly inspiring.” - Andrew Cheetham
