'I enjoy making silverware that has a function. I like to think that my silver will be used for all sorts of occasions bringing enjoyment and pleasure for years, and for it to be handed down through the future generations to become family heirlooms’. – A.Macgowan
Andrew Macgowan is a wonderfully talented and experienced Silver and Goldsmith. Based in Birmingham with over 32 years of experience, Andrew has produced exceptional silver-work ranging from church-ware to Trophies, distinct gifts and awards, bespoke commissions for tableware and object d’art.
Discovering the joy of working with metal during his school years inspired Andrew to study the craft further at The School of Jewellery and Silversmithing, in Birmingham, back in 1979.
Ever since then, Andrew has worked for himself designing and producing exquisite gold and silverware for numerous clients over the years. In 2008 Andrew received the honour of becoming a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths.
It is obvious that Andrew is justifiably proud of his achievements and continues fully to enjoy his work. Some of his most recent pieces have been inspired by Andrew’s travels in Japan and his walks through the bamboo forests near to Kyoto. An experience, which he describes as ‘Truly magical’
