Cherylene is an award winning Scottish figurative painter and a graduate of the Glasgow School of Art. Her paintings are concerned with examining the complexities of the human condition, and she believes that the medium of paint is still one of the most powerful ways of expressing an idea. Her subjects vary from close friends and family to outsiders and strangers, and it’s this relationship with the subject that forms the basis for her work. She is as influenced by directors likes David Lynch and Wim Wenders as she is by painters such as Lucian Freud and Paula Regu; her work aims to hit a subconscious, primal part of the brain, challenging the viewer to engage with it’s thematic content. Cherylene says, “I despise the idea of a painting matching someone’s couch, you should choose a painting because it speaks directly to your soul”.
Cherylene will happily paint most subjects, and can even give you instructions on how to take photographs for her to work from - although for larger more complex commissions she does like to take her own photos. She never produces the same painting twice, but can do a variation of the image you like. All prices include framing.
