Wendy's use of the nude had been very autobiographical and she has always used herself or close friends as the model. This time Wendy asked the daughter of a friend of hers, a beautiful, supremely confident and very talented artist herself. The resulting paintings were a real surprise, and Wendy didn’t realise how affected she would be by her subjects personality.
Her normally soft, fairly melancholic paintings gave way to a sharper, stronger, self assured yet vulnerable kind of imagery; there are three paintings in this series, and in each these same aesthetic qualities are evident. The marks and process of painting was different here also, becoming much sharper with less glazing and scumbling than would normally be used.
This piece is painted in acrylics on 300gms watercolour paper.
