About Me

All of Sally Dunham's ceramic sculptures are individually handcrafted using a mixture of earthstone and porcelain clay. Each sculpture is constructed hollow, using NO molds or interior supports. Using small slabs of clay pieced together almost like a patchwork quilt, each individually placed piece can be seen in the finished sculptures, giving a lively, distinctive finish and tactile surface.

Her love for art started at a young age, at a time when her hours were spent creating small models from fimo and fabric. Yet it wasn't until Sixth Form that Sally had her first real introduction to the medium of clay, and, as soon as she touched it she was captivated by its vast potential. 'I remember carving into a block of clay to create my first figure', says Sally, 'and my wonderful teacher Neil saying to me, "Remember, the figure is in there, you just have to discover it". This has always stayed with me.' When Sally started her Degree at the University of Wolverhampton, she spent two years experimenting with a range of techniques before her current style began to evolve and take shape - a learning process which continues to this day.

Now in her 16th year of business Sally is proud to have many collectors and a host of galleries introducing her work to new audiences. She resides in her hometown of Soham, Cambridgeshire.

'I enjoy working on a range of themes and also enjoy the challenge of personal commissions, often creating portraits of individuals, families and pets. I thrive on the test that the creation of each new piece brings, and find working with a range of new figures keeps my work intriguing and alive'

My little bookworm arrived in perfect condition, I picked up a little late as I was away last week. But I am so happy with it – it looks amazing. Thank you and Sally for a great product, service and communication. I have no doubt I will be surfing your website again!! Best Regards, Zoe Sheavills
